Would you drink a fine wine from a plastic cup? Exactly.
For a full aroma experience of a high-quality mezcal, you should serve it in traditional gourd cups – so-called Jícaras. These come from the calabash tree and are not only beautiful but also functional: their wider surface and slightly rough interior naturally intensify the flavor.
Tradition & Craftsmanship
In the Mexican mezcal regions, Jícaras are the preferred drinking vessel – both in everyday life and during tastings at the distilleries. Each bowl is hand-carved in the state of Oaxaca, often decorated with intricate reliefs of animals and plants.
Unique – Just Like Your Taste
The drinking opening (Ø 5–10 cm) allows you to fully take in the mezcal’s aroma – a sensual experience with every sip. Thanks to their natural origin, Jícaras differ in color, shape, and size (approx. 20–130 ml). Each one is unique.
A simple ring made of woven reed serves as a base. They are also a visual highlight – whether for mezcal, tequila, or other special spirits.
Important Note:
Please note: natural variations are not a defect but part of their authentic charm. Before first use, the cups should be moistened and allowed to swell briefly. At first, small drops may appear on the bottom or sides – this is normal! The pores of the gourd close over time.
